Roberto Bilro Mendes is a Partner in the Financial Services Risk & Regulation practice at PwC Portugal and co-Leader of the PwC SSM EBA Office Network in the areas of Compliance & AML.
Since October 2016, when he joined PwC, he has been managing regulatory projects, including projects focused on the analysis and assessment of compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relating to corporate governance of institutions, namely corporate governance, suitability of members of management and supervisory bodies and holders of key functions (fit & proper), internal control systems, remuneration policies and practices, and assessment of the compliance function. He has also managed projects involving the analysis and implementation of several financial and insurance-related regulations, with particular focus on financial intermediation (MiFID II/MiFIR), the marketing of complex financial products (PRIIPs), and insurance distribution (IDD).
He is a published author in Portugal and internationally in the field of Commercial Law and a keynote speaker and certified trainer in Banking Law, Financial Markets Law and Digital Assets Law, with frequent teaching engagements in postgraduate programmes at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
Roberto Mendes was an associate lawyer in the Banking and Financial Markets Law Department at Rebelo de Sousa & Associates for three years and a lawyer in the Legal/Compliance Department at Banco Invest for three and a half years. In this role, he assumed, among others, responsibilities related to the implementation and monitoring of compliance with various European and international legislation, such as MiFID, CRD IV, AIFMD, EMIR and FATCA, as well as the legal requirements applicable to derivatives trading under Portuguese, English or New York law.
