Tax Technology

Moving forward to digital tax?

Today, we live in a technological environment that is not always fully connected. At personal and professional level, we use smartphones, social media networks and complex information systems, however, most professional activities still depend on spreadsheets, email and unstructured and disperse information.

Companies increasingly rely on highly qualified employees, yet they spend at least half of their time in performing manual tasks, such as processing and structuring data in order to obtain relevant information.

PwC predicts that, soon, most tax functions will require professional tools for data extraction, transformation, analysis and visualization, to assist in decision-making processes.

Our experience

We help our clients on the implementation of technological solutions with the objective of increasing the level of control, reducing costs and modernizing and increasing the efficiency of their tax processes.

Our team is composed of elements from the tax and technology areas, being able to serve as a central point in issues related to tax technology.

Since 2008 we have been assisting our clients in several subjects related to the digital transformation of the tax function, including support in the SAF-T file (Standard Audit File for Tax Purposes), Billing Certification process and SAF-T Visualizer.

Your challenges

Start-up and evolution of the digital tax functio

Your challenges

Many companies consider that the process of defining the appropriate technological strategy for the tax function is complex. Likewise, there is not always an overview of the technology currently available, associated to tax.

Nowadays, the tax function lives a paradigm - the number of stakeholders associated with this function has been increasing, however, companies try to achieve more using fewer resources. There is, therefore, the need of balancing the extraordinary  number of tasks within the tax function, with the daily challenges and deadlines.

How we can help

  • Support in identifying existing solutions on the market focused on tax technology
  • Together with our tax experts from different areas (such as indirect and direct taxes), support in defining or reviewing:
    • The tax function (e.g. responsibilities within the function)
    • The processes associated with the tax function
    • A business case for transforming the tax function
    • The impacts on the tax function resulting from business needs

Software development and implementation

Your challenges

The technology to support the tax function has, in general, to respond to a level of complexity that is not available through generic commercial solutions (COTS - Commercial Off-The-Shelf software). Thus, the implementation of technology associated with the tax function, almost always requires a level of customization, even if a standard solution is adopted.

How we can help

  • Support in the Billing Software Certification processes with Tax Authorities from different countries
  • Support in the implementation of e-archive and e-invoice systems
  • Support in the implementation of reporting solutions, such as Country-by-Country-Reporting (CbCr), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and VAT refund requests (PAP)
  • Support on systems integration and migration
  • Development of process automation solutions (Robotic Process Automation RPA)
  • Design and development of tailor-made solutions

Data Analytics & Visualization

Your challenges

Data analysis allows companies to understand whether the information made available to third parties correctly reflects its business and the level of compliance required. Additionally, it is important to be prepared and know the data transmitted, at least, as well as the receiving entities and authorities.

How we can help

  • Licensing of the PwC SAF-T Visualizer
  • SAF-T file validation and diagnostic
  • Develop Dashboards to support management
  • Support on the data extraction
  • Improve the data consistency and quality
  • Data reconciliation across multiple systems
  • Identification of patterns and trends
  • Users training

Optimization of the technological ecosystem

Your challenges

The technology to support the tax function requires optimization and maintenance throughout its useful life. The local and international environments are constantly evolving, with an increase in the extent and depth of tax obligations to be fulfilled, and with tax authorities and other regulators better prepared and with greater scrutiny power.

How we can help

  • Review of:
    • Technological ecosystem to support tax compliance
    • Requirements for tax compliance and their respective implementation in support systems
    • E-archive and e-invoice
    • Systems migration
    • Compliance with the Billing Software Certification requirements, after obtaining the certificate
    • Other processes and systems related to the tax area (e.g. process from the registration of transactions to the generation of the tax return)
